“There is no statute of limitation on starting over. Be a phoenix. Be ashes. Burn down. Resurrect.

Let go of the idea you must always be who you have always been.”

MY APPROACH:

I consider myself a work in progress. Always learning and growing. At Heartcentered I believe we are ALL capable of learning and growing no matter how others may perceive us or our abilities. I don't believe anyone is "broken" and therefore I am not here to "fix" you or your child. I merely facilitate connections between brain and body so that the individuals I serve are able to make changes happen within themselves, therefore allowing for optimal growth and learning to occur. By coming from this perspective of "facilitator," I honor each individual (child or adult) as they make their own discoveries. This is where true learning happens. In discovering the differences on our own, where those "ah-ha" moments occur. This is true for ALL of us. No matter the challenges or diagnosis!

HOW DID I GET HERE?

My story has involved many events that have shaped who I am and the experiences I have had. As a child I was fortunate to grow up in a home where I engaged with adults with special needs as a result of the volunteer work of my mother and older brothers. I was provided this gift that forever shaped me and led me down the career path of serving those that are often misunderstood, discounted and assumed incompetent. Choosing to presume competence is at the forefront of my work.

Most recently, in the late summer of 2019, I experienced a physical injury that seemingly came out of nowhere and literally knocked me off my feet and took me out of work for 2 months. During this time I was allowed the grace to go deep within myself and, despite some very painful moments both physically and emotionally,  to "come out the other side" better for it. During this time I was reminded that we all have great power within us. No matter the diagnosis, life circumstance, or those things that we consider challenges, we all matter, we are all here for a reason, and we all have a healer within- our BRAIN! No one is broken and no one needs "fixing." We all just need the love and space to be who we are, to express ourselves (be that verbally or with alternative means), to feel safe in doing so, to feel seen and heard despite our differences, and to learn how to be more connected to our own bodies in order to best support our own nervous system so that we can thrive!

The events of my injury and road to healing provided me with the most palpable form of learning- it put me in the place of experiencing firsthand everything I have studied over the years about the brain/body connection and how clearly our nervous systems and brain/body communicate. I experienced firsthand how when the body experiences a trauma or pain, it communicates that to the brain and the brain then works overtime to protect us from future injury or pain. Despite our brain's best intentions, this can, and often does, lead us to a place where we become "stuck" in our own body and even the most basic of tasks can be overwhelming.

As a result, I believe my work has matured due to this deeper, personal understanding.  Be it working with children with developmental difficulties, or those individuals whose nervous system is holding on to some earlier trauma or stressful event, I know that the work that I do has the power to make a difference. My passion continues to be the desire to share this knowledge and these tools with those of us who work tirelessly to overcome daily challenges only to stumble upon them again and again despite our best efforts. Let's get to the root of it together by learning to support the nervous system so that we can thrive!

I am excited to share this knowledge with you to support you along your own journey!
